Wondering how the Dubai International Airport (DXB) looks like in the coronavirus pandemic? With the flight restrictions in place, the world of traveling seems to have hit a standstill. But little by little things are getting back on track, with the easing of flying restrictions.
As we speak, the action on the terminals is picking up and travelers are allowed to enter if they have a valid flight ticket and their flight is in less than 4 hours.
A new sight of medical equipment(masks, gloves, rubbing alcohol) vending machines will make you feel a little weird. But hey, in case you forgot your hand sanitizer at home, they are welcome!
Check-in process
Like in any indoor establishment, your temperature will be checked by passing through a scanner. If your temp is high, you will get another manual scan. If that is also showing a high temperature, the traveler is invited to a resting area where they will wait 10 minutes for yet another scan.
At check-in, plexiglass will provide the safety of the staff and the travelers. You are more than welcome to use the smart gate if you are a local, resident, or permanent visa holder.
Once is time to put your staff onto the trays, rest assured they are constantly disinfected between uses.
Once you reach the duty-free everything seems more normal apart for the social distancing and mandatory hand sanitization once you enter each shop.
Eating at a terminal restaurant is also quite safe as social distancing is extremely organized.
In the waiting area, all the seats are organized using a system that allows each adjoining seat to be empty.
Everyone who arrives in Dubai must be cleared for COVID -19. You might already have a test that states you are healthy or you will have to take the once at the airport. You will need to download a phone app, the COVID-19 app, where you will receive your results on.
The PCR test is the last step before being allowed through the doors. More than 20 booths are waiting for you to get tested. The result comes in 24 hours. If you are positive you must self-quarantine for 14 days.
The confidence in travel is recuperating day by day. As long as safety and security is kept at high standards things will resemble a form of normality. We just need to be patient and careful.
